Boston Globe Highlights Nina Dudnik as Model of Emerging Public Service Movement
Hope for a sustained surge in youth volunteerism and public service is on the rise as Barack Obama mulls plans to launch a new national service initiative. However, the rise of the civic-minded Millennial Generation precedes Obama’s rise, and many think that this young generation’s energy can reinvigorate American civic life. One indicator is that Teach for America’s applications are likely to rise 50% this year from an already staggering 25,000 last year, according to a Boston Globe report.
We were thrilled that Nina Dudnik, a 2007 Echoing Green Fellow, was lauded as a model for this public service movement on the Globe’s front page. She deserves it—having already equipped twenty-two labs in thirteen countries. “What I really want to do is change the map of where science is done, and the sustainability of science around the world,” she told the Globe.
